The kayaks awaited us today – and we all headed down to the waterfront to check out the guy in the yellow shirt with a paddle in his hand… we found him and were on our way. As our goodies were stowed in a waterproof bucket, Sandra took the only photos of us heading away – so you’ll just have to wait for photos!!! Neil and Karla paddled away off the main part of Dubrovnik and around Lokrum Island – which has an old monastery and fort. We didn’t visit these things – as we were too busy paddling (doing even stevens). We made for a cave on the mainland for a sammy and then paddled around the old town again before making it back to the starting point just below Pile Square. In the meantime, Sandra did the ABC and worked out how expensive the shops were…
The three of us spent a nice relaxing afternoon wandering around the old town again – checking out sites like: Ploče Gate; Dubrovnik Cathedral and St Ignatius of Layola (completed in 1725 – and including a really cool grotto). There are just so many churches here (in Italy and Croatia) – it is impossible to do them justice – so we just take a peek and move on.
We adjourned to take a review of our travels so far, and after a bit of a yarn, we headed off for dinner at Konoba (Ma – I hope that is the place you wanted us to go to…) for a beautiful meal and lovely conversation with some Japanese tourists. For those interested, the meal consisted of tasting the local oysters, fish pate, fried sardines (unlike anything you would try in NZ), mussels, seafood risotto, and a lovely local vino.
What a great way to complete our visit to Dubovnik. We look forward to the next instalment… and will keep you posted!

Your kayak trip sounded interesting. Are there any sore arm muscles today? What a quaint little street in your second photo. Fabulous.
Local news: Carter Holt Harvey laid off 316 people at their Mt Maunganui and Putaruru mills due to the economic downturn.
John Key performed extremely well in the Leaders debate on TV Tues night. I only watched snippets, but the commentators thought he came across the best. Key wants to see at least 40 per cent of the NZ Super Fund invested in NZ to underpin greater productivity in the local economy.
Sport: Disappointed in Ferns, England really deserved to win 40-38. (Karla, hope the texts weren’t too annoying.) Decider on Sat but not sure if I'll see it.
After a wobbly start, Black Caps finally won the series against Bangladesh 2-1. Taylor top scored with 103.
Ruben Wiki has fully retired form all league. He had lucrative offers from two UK clubs for a year, but decided to retire.
Karla – LINZ have invited you to their 3.1 celebrations on 30th Oct. I’ve told Selena you’ll be there! Now you couldn't possibly miss out on that after all the work you did.
Awesome! Glad Im not missing the LINY celebration! Thanks Jan.
