This morning we were extremely organised for our departure – but got a bus an hour later than we really wanted. Never mind. On our way back through Bosnia, we noticed that petrol was €2.22 per litre – so we should think ourselves lucky in NZ! We tolerated the scenic 4.5 hour journey to Split (gee the bus drivers are an interesting breed – ours today stopped to buy oranges on the side of the road – while we all waited on the bus!). At Split, our host met us at the bus station and took Neil to the apartment by foot, while Sandra and Karla accompanied the bags and our host’s brother via car to the apartment. We arrived at the same time!!!
The apartment is fantastic – with two separate rooms and bathrooms – joined by a kitchen in the middle. Our host gave us an excellent explanation of the city and sights – accompanied by a welcome drink (which wasn’t what we would call wine in NZ… more like cider/vinegar) – but no complaints! The picture is of us enjoying (???) our welcome drinks in our lovely courtyard.
We stopped for a drink before heading out for tea at a local place recommended by our host. The meal was fantastic – and nothing like Dubrovnik prices (which is quite pleasant!!!). After a stroll through the old town – giving us a taste of what is to come in the next 4 days – we made our way back to the apartment to settle in for the evening. We’re planning our next 4 days here – aiming to pack in as much as possible – but also to enjoy some quiet time. The blog will tell in the next few days – and we’ll keep you posted!
