Day 14 – Zagreb Again

Following is a recap on dinner last night. We had already picked a great restaurant: Agava. A so called “mid-range” restaurant (according to Lonely Planet). We had the most beautiful pasta with truffles – definitely to die for. Thank goodness we all agreed to share… or Neil and Karla would have missed out… the rest of our meal was very tasty, beautifully prepared accompanied by excellent wine (Malvazija Polesina) and service - but nothing will beat the pasta with truffles!

Today was a day where we should have been somewhere else apart from Zagreb. However, we don’t have much room to move on the itinerary – so Zagreb it was. We thought we’d go and check out the markets that we missed yesterday because of the public holiday. They were quite extensive – full of meat, bread, cheese, fruit and vegetable stalls – all you could ask for!

We made it to the tower to witness the gun being fired at midday (see yesterday’s blog entry for details), then we headed off to the Zagreb City Museum for a couple of hours before having a late lunch. The museum was well laid out – but a lack of English signs on the exhibits spoilt the experience somewhat. From what was displayed and the little that was in English, we gathered Zagreb had quite a chequered history.

From there we took an excursion on the tram – all the way down one of the lines and back again. There was nothing to see. This tram excursion was even worse than yesterday’s.

And that was our day! We’re going to chill out tonight before heading to Sibenik tomorrow morning.

After your hectic sightseeing before arriving in Croatia, although unplanned, it's probably good to relax a little – real shame there isn’t more to see in Zagreb though. Hopefully it’ll be better in Sibenik.
News: Wall St and European stock markets sunk further overnight.
Sport: Black Caps eating humble pie –Bangladesh won by 7 wickets!
Breakers had first loss to Cairns in Auck last night by 11goals.
Southland won Nat Netball Champs last weekend against Auck-Waitakere.
OZ (with some stars missing) beat England in both games but it wasn’t a complete walk-over. We play England next week.
Karla, I know you’ll feel sad to be missing Bathurst on Sunday, but hey, not everyone can go to Europe!
