The day started with a change of diet for breakfast – fresh fruit salad and toast instead of salami, tomato and cheese grilled on toast. Neil is really proving himself as a chef on this tour – having organised breakfast every single day so far.
Today was the planned day trip to Bled. We got a bus and marvelled again at the beautiful Slovenian countryside on our way there. The place is seriously beautiful – and we’re sure that none of our pictures will do it justice.
Bled itself is an amazing alpine town. It is picture postcard material – and particularly today with clear blue skies for most of the day (the first photo is from the top of the castle over the lake). We made the hike up the hill to the castle (from the lake – not the castle entrance). The picture of the castle from the lake front should give you an indication of the climb. We weren’t sure that Sandra was going to make it – but perseverance paid off and we all enjoyed the breathtaking scenery from the top of the castle.
In addition, we got an added bonus – some medieval dancing and sword fighting put on by the locals (English commentary was provided too – which was really great). We’ve included a short video of one of the sword fights we saw – as you will see it was quite well done!
We’re going to have our first ‘chill-out’ night of the trip so far tonight – we need a bit of re-charging after all of the hectic days we’ve had so far. Tomorrow is a short walking tour of
