Today was our last day in
Trieste – and we’d pretty much covered most tourist things except the tram to Opicina. So off we went. The tram works in two parts – one as a normal tram, then it hooks up to a section of cable for a very long steep climb up and out of Treiste, then returns to being a normal tram to Opicina. Awesome trip – and spectacular views over
Trieste. We packed up our apartment then set off for the next adventure.
The bus trip to Slovenia wound around the hills of Trieste on the way out of the city. Slovenia came a little more quickly than we expected. The bus stopped for half an hour in a place called Sežana. Neil and Karla took off to explore for the 30 minutes we had to spare and came across a Mexican café. This place was barely 1km inside Slovenia – it had an English cocktail list, but we had trouble ordering drinks as nobody spoke English. Mega cheap though - €2.15 for a beer and a wine! The trip through Slovenia was magic – with beautiful autumnal colours. Very picturesque! We were met by our host – who took us directly to the apartment – a stone’s throw from the bus and train station. The apartment is the smallest yet – but is well appointed and has everything we need and is in a great location. A quick reconnoitre into town led us to the Holidays Pub
– so we just had to stop for a drink (see photo)!
The temperature is the coldest yet – around 10 degrees in the evening. We headed off into town – and being a Saturday night we expected to see a few people around – but the place was practically deserted. We finally found a restaurant that was suitable – we were the last in for dinner in the evening and it was only 8.45pm!
