We started the day with breakfast at the hotel before catching a hotel cab to the Mall of the Emirates. This is a massive shopping complex with a large indoor skiing complex – Ski Dubai – attached. We spent plenty of time wandering around the shops and looking at the skiers – but not much purchasing was done. We’ve found that the malls don’t really have any bargains and the prices are pretty consistent with what we pay back home. At lunchtime, the only food we thought we could get was in the food hall. Now I draw the line at having to eat my lunch in the toilet – so we managed to find a fancy restaurant for lunch – Salmontini. We paid a fortune for lunch, but it was extremely nice – mostly based around salmon and tuna dishes.
We got a cab to head back to our hotel – and yet again had the feeling that we were going around and around in circles. From the inside of the shopping centre, we got the taxi, went outside and around the shopping centre – then went back inside to hook up with the motorway. Crazy stuff. The cab ride was pretty interesting – we had a VERY close near miss on the motorway – I bet the brake mechanics are kept pretty busy here.Sandra and Karla went to check out
The photo is of our view of Ski Dubai. Awesome to think that this is in the middle of a shopping mall!!!

You certainly started you holiday full on seeing lots in a short time. Dubai sounds like a fascinating place – they seem to dream a fantasy and just build it! What a bummer it’s Ramadan though.
At work last Friday Brett W (for his farewell) provided us with red and white wine, pate, crackers and 9 different cheeses! What a pity you missed it. Still, I think being in Dubai might just beat that!!
It’s all over for the Warriors. They lost big time to Manley (32-6). However, the Wellington Phoenix beat Sydney FC 2-1.
You and Neil will be interested to know that ‘go live’ went well.
You and Neil will be interested to know that ‘go live’ went well. There was a problem early this morning when the server rebooted – the spaitial window wouldn’t start. Lester finally found that a normal maintenance upgrade program that runs before each ‘go live’ had deleted a file. All fixed now at 9:15am. Whew!!
