After some of us had a bit of a sleep in this morning we had breakfast at the hotel and caught a taxi to the
Dubai museum. The museum was well laid out – and thankfully mostly indoors – as it was an absolute scorcher today! Afterwards, we walked to the old souk in Bur Dubai (not too far – but far enough in the heat of today). Souk is an arab name for market. A bit of wandering and a bit of shopping later, we got on an abra to cross the creek to the Deira side. Once there we had a very quick look at the spice souk and re-crossed the river before heading to meet Mark and Anita for lunch at a cafĂ© called the Lime Tree on Jumeira Beach Road (a touch of kiwi with the owners being NZers).
Once we were done with lunch, Mark took us to the Madinat – which is another upmarket hotel complex and shopping mall. We had a good look around – but again Ramadan was a bit of a barrier to sampling any kind of food or having a drink. A cold beer at the end of the day would have been perfect – but no such luck during Ramadan. Mark took us to an amazing shop called Wafi Gourmet – where we picked up a selection of Lebanese goodies for dinner (takeaway of course – as it was still Ramadan no eating time). After a quick shower and change we headed to Mark’s place for our lovely dinner. Mark and Anita have to go back to work tomorrow (yes – Sunday) as over here the weekends are Friday and Saturday.
The first photo today is of the 3 of us at the Madinat with the Burj Al Arab in the background. This is the clearest we’ve seen it so far. The second photo is one Karla took of the Burj Dubai – soon to be the world’s tallest building – as we were driving down the 6 lane motorway the runs through the middle of Dubai.

The weather looks great guys... I must admit the jealous factor is pretty high right now. The Burj Al Arab must be an awesome sight in the skyline... I forwarded the picture to some guys in the office for a look... impressive.
