Day 34

At 8 am took off with our guide to visit an acient granite quarry to see an unfinished obelisk and learn how they wer made. From there we crossed the old Aswan dam then moved further up the river to the new Aswan Dam. A huge dam with Lake Nasser gleaming in the sun behind it.

From the dam we travelled by boat to an island in a lake formed between the two dams to vist the Temple of Philae relocated on it. The original site is now partialy under water. another amazing greek temple.

Later we visited Aswan Cathedral and the Nubian Museum. Feeling brave we ran the gauntlet of the local market. As ususal hassled veyond belief and not being able to look at things withou being pestered. Needless to say did not buy anything because of that.

Will be very sad to leave our cruise tomorrow. It has been really wonderful and a real treat. Crew have been wonderful and its been relaxing too.

Finally for access to the internet this morning. Been down since we came on the boat. thanks Jan for the comments

Pleased to hear you're enjoying the cruise. The temples sound amazing. Had a little panic when I was there was a bus accident in Abu Simbal by the Aswam High Dam and 6 tourists were killed. Guessing it's not you guys since you've blogged.
A Tarata farmer was electrocuted to death yesturday... not sure who it was as the name hasn't been released, but I'm sure the locals will know.
One week to go until election day. Seems to be a bit of an anti-climax with everything else thats going on.
Nikki is well. She's had a busy couple of weeks with all her activities. We bought her a bigger bike this week - "Poppa will be so proud of me" - she just got on the bike and she was off!

That's all for now. Will speak to you when you get to back to Dubai.

No surprise that you loved the cruise...and the ballooning, yes its amazing. I see you are at Abu Simbel today (NZ time) and the Museum tomorrow, more treasures in store for you with the riches of Tutankhamun. Are you going to get to Hanging Church etc? Just rang Ann, the farmer killed was their nephew, Ben's son. It happened on Motukawa Rd, Tarata. (I read D's comment). Enjoy the blue skies and warm temps, not so back here.
