Day 18 – Around Dubrovnik

We all believe that this place is VERY commercial. After Sibenik, it is hard to enjoy – although there is no doubt the place is very beautiful. We took hordes of photos today on our key activities – which we’ve included highlights of below.

A walk of the city walls is an absolute ‘must do’ for anyone who comes here. We made many, many stops along the way – so consequently, the walk took us much longer than the recommended time – but we were so busy soaking it all up we didn’t care. Then it was off down Placa – the main street to check out some of the recommended sights. First stop was Sponza Palace – which is now the home of the historic archives of the city. It had an excellent memorial to those who fought for Dubrovnik between 1991 – 96, as well as some historic manuscripts etc. Then we went to the Rector’s Palace – which contained a lot of historic paraphernalia (which we won’t go into) but we all enjoyed the beauty of the sedan chairs that were on display. From there, we grabbed some lunch (geez this place is expensive…) and got our energy up for the trek to Fort Lovrijenac – which is the fort you can see from the castle walls. The walk was worth it – as the views were spectacular!!! The photo to the right is the three of us on top of the fort - with views of the old town to the right of Neil.

The last photo is a view of the old town from the fort. Hope you guys are all enjoying the blog!!!

We certainly are enjoying the travel commentary and pictures on your blog – thanks.
NZ wasted England 65-26 last night. Irene (38/40) started at GS in her 160th international then moved to GA at ½ time when Wipiiti (12/19) came on. Henry (WD) was player of match.
The Govt has guaranteed all bank deposits here. All major trading banks and savings banks have committed to the scheme which is aimed at restoring confidence in the face of a world financial storm.
The election is gaining momentum here with the first TV debate tonight.

We enjoyed Dubrovinik, walking the walls - I almost dropped our camera off the highest corner, just a little excitment from Dean when that happened. We also had the pleasure of watching a beautiful Italian lady walking around the wall in very high stilleto heals, and to top off our wall excursion we saw Miss Dubrovnik 1925 sunbathbathing naked (not a pretty sight), did you spot her Neil??

BBQ at our house this weekend, Dean is smokefree 1 year and I'm not 50 this year birthday.
All the best Vicki and Dean

To Dean - no Neil missed the lady. You should have said something before we left...
